Shop Premium Matcha → The Tools Chawan (Bowl) A chawan is the traditional bowl used to prepare matcha. Its wide shape gives you enough space to whisk and helps prevent spills. Don’t have a chawan? Any small, wide bowl will work. Chasen (Bamboo Whisk) A chasen, or bamboo whisk, helps fully mix the matcha with water and creates the light, frothy texture matcha is known for. Sifter Matcha is a very fine powder and can naturally clump. Sifting helps break up those clumps before whisking, giving you a smoother drink. A small fine mesh kitchen sifter works well. Chashaku A chashaku is the traditional bamboo scoop used to measure matcha. For a more precise measurement, use a kitchen scale or teaspoon. Start with 2g and adjust up to 4g depending on how strong you like your matcha. Hot Water Use hot water around 175°F. Water that is too hot can make matcha taste more bitter. Find Your Matcha Ratio There’s no single right amount of matcha. Start with 2g per drink and increase to 4g if you prefer a stronger flavor. The amount of water and milk you use can also change the strength and texture of your drink. Want an easy place to start? Try Our Golden Ratio Matcha Recipe →
